About a year ago our son E “graduated” from tot school on to home preschool. While now he may do more worksheets and specific activities, it is always insightful and inspiring to look back and what we done in the past!

As always, I have single posts dedicated to each week of school in our homeschool. My goal is that you can quickly find some ideas here, including links to all the WONDERFUL free resources I find.

Thank you for visiting! Now let’s take a look at these festively fun 44 Tot School Themes!

44 Tot School Themes! Tot trays for holiday, transportation, animals and more!

Tot School Themes: Fall Season & Fall Holidays

Fall is lovely, especially where we live! We enjoyed starting things off with a visit to the pumpkin patch as well as picking (and eating!) wonderful fresh apples. We celebrate the official start of Autumn and look forward to Halloween!

Tot School Themes: Winter Season & Winter Holidays

The trees are bare and the temperatures are way below freezing. We still find ways to have fun learning inside! Here are some seasonal themes from winter, with other learning opportunities outside of the season peppered throughout this list.

Tot School Themes: Spring Season & Spring Holidays

Winter tends to last far into Spring here, but it is always fun to celebrate these holidays. While we did not tackle a Spring theme until preschool, St. Patrick’s Day and Easter were always on display, whether at the grocery store or in ours and our neighbors’ doors and lawns!

Tot School Themes: Animals

The easiest themes for us beyond the holidays have surely been animals. Most books, shows, and everything really can be tied to the animal kingdom! Though we also talked about planting crops, we included our very animal-friendly farm theme on this list as well.

Tot School Themes: Sports

We love sports around here and wanted to start learning with them as soon as we could! Be sure to check out my FREE hockey tot pack with activities for tots and preschoolers!

Tot School Themes: The Basics

Letters, numbers, shapes, and colors – I’m calling them “the basics” here. Naturally, these show up absolutely everywhere, but it is also good to focus on them a week at a time! Our week on circles was one of the very first themes we did.

Tot School Themes: Science

Science themes were probably the most exciting to us. What can a little one learn about science? How fun will it be to watch their understanding grow with preschool science and beyond? How quickly will he pass me up? ๐Ÿ™‚ These were all fun, including our “generic” science theme, and we revisited them all in preschool.

Tot School Themes: Transportation

So here is when we get to use our Minimotors counters! We didn’t get to a train theme until preschool, but we surely had fun learning about cars and buses. His birthday party that year was even about airplanes!

Tot School Themes: Art & Music

Just as the title says, here are our weeks celebrating the arts!

Tot School Themes: Important Skills

When E was a tot we were wholly inspired by the Montessori concept. We didn’t subscribe to it all but surely appreciated many elements. He really took to self-feeding, pouring, and cleaning. During our healthy foods week he especially liked making DIY recipe cards! Here are some other important skills emphasized through his tot school themes:

Tot School Themes: Social Science

We are reaching the end of the list and when it comes to tot school, it is a little hard to categorize these! But they sure fall under social science at least. Check out the sensory bin on the Japanese theme!

Tot School Themes: Random

And here are three more “themes” to check out! We have our very first set, one that is quick and easy to put together, plus a set of 30 tot tray-inspired ideas for on the go.

Thanks for coming by and checking out some tot school (and preschool) ideas. I hope they help you in one way or another!

    • Thank you! It’s last year and it seems far away now. Time certainly flies!

  3. I’m thinking to do preschool at home with my daughter this year. My son attends public school. He was in daycare prior to school, but we no longer have to use that thankfully! Thanks for sharing on Family Joy Blog Link-up. Please come back and join us again!
