Sometimes activities just evolve! A good example this black bean “space” activity. While I was at work, E and D thought of a new way to play – dump them on the floor! It may be a simple idea, but I hope you enjoy this easy toddler sensory play activity!

Easy sensory floor play with beans! We used black beans and white Northern beans.

Now I never would have thought of this — add a rolling pin to spread them around. It was really a cool effect. Then it went from there, adding some larger beans (so they were very easy to sort), plus trucks, buses, and street signs.

Beans, lentils and the like have vaulted to the top of my favorite easy toddler sensory play items. They aren’t “dusty,” they come in nice colors, they are easy to clean, and more! And oh yeah, they are cheap! (A few months ago there was a SavingStar promotion to save $5 on $25 of Goya items. While this seems expensive, I did it, and we have enough beans for a year, probably!)

Hooray for beans — one of E’s favorite foods, and favorite things to play with, too.

This simple idea is shared with 1+1+1=1’s Tot School Gathering Place, Motivational Monday, and Small Victories Sunday!
