When I first set up E’s tot school shelf, I had planned to make this laminated strip (say about 12″ x 3″ that I would attach with velcro to the seam where I attached the two shelves together. Besides the function of covering up the seam, I wanted it to show what school is all about that week.
But, when it came down to it, this wasn’t very feasible. It was just a bit more work than I was willing to do. On top of that, the sign was always covered up with trays!
I found a much more feasible solution that works well with my regular UPS orders. I now make an approximately 8.5″ x 5.5″ “sign” that shows the theme. It’s easy to look up things like desktop backgrounds to find nice detailed images. I just copy, paste into Word, and put a text box on top with the theme’s name (such as Dinosaurs). It’s a neat way to incorporate a real picture. Plus, I can get two on a page and print in bright color for 50 cents or so — it’s a good deal!
So, as we have rearranged our whole downstairs area since tot school started back in January, we ended up placing his shelf where there was a convenient peg board behind it. On the left I have a permanent sign that says “E’s School”, but now on the right I can tape up this new sign.
