E is a healthy eater – one of the healthiest I know (and that includes adults)! But, he sure likes candy and chocolate, and would eat a lot of both if he could! After some deliberation, and even after buying one, we decided against the chocolate advent calendar this year. The last thing we need him ‘looking forward’ to each day is a bad quality piece of chocolate.
Yet, it is quite fun to count down the days until Christmas, so we took a different approach. We went with the Santa’s Beard Advent Calendar — thank you Pinterest for the idea!
We literally decided this on November 30th! So, we just printed this cute Santa at home on regular white paper. Then, the plan each day was to stick a glue dot on the correct date and put a cotton ball in the container. Then, he could peel off the glue dot and stick on the cotton ball by himself. Between this being a multiple-week activity, and that we decided to put it near his room to do when he wakes up, we felt clean glue dots was much more feasible than any kind of sticky glue!
It was fun, yet intimidating, watching the beard fill up. He was quite proud of it being all full at the end (and understood that meant tomorrow is Christmas)!
We were glad to do an advent activity but without the drama and sugar of treats. We’ll enjoy putting a little more thought into next year’s version of our Santa’s Beard Advent Calendar — and Pinterest will surely play a part!
